Maximalist Buttercream, in Lavender
/Sometimes, more really is more.
This lavender cake is a variation of one of my classic designs, a style that celebrates intricate buttercream piping and all the small details that make a cake feel special.
For this version, I worked with a lavender base and added layer upon layer of piping: ruffled borders, scalloped details, swags, and tiny buttercream florals. Blush pink, ivory, pale yellow, and touches of green break up the lavender while keeping the overall palette cohesive. Small gold details add just a hint of contrast.
The design is intentionally maximalist. Rather than creating one main focal point, the piping wraps around the entire cake, so there is something to discover from every angle.
I especially love how a different color palette can completely transform one of my signature designs. In lavender, all of those vintage-inspired details feel soft, whimsical, and a little unexpected.
Each element is piped by hand in buttercream, which means no two versions of this design will ever be exactly alike. Colors, florals, borders, and smaller details can all be adapted to complement a celebration while retaining the overall Rose Vanilla style.
For anyone who believes there can never be too many ruffles, flowers, or beautifully piped details, this one is for you.
